Jay Jam Apparel
About
Jay Jam Apparel is one guy in Austin, Texas making shirts that are worth a second look.
I am a solo dad with two kids and a bad habit of building things at night. The shirts started because my kids groan at my jokes, which I have decided means the jokes are good. Some of them are just a line worth wearing, like Cold Pizza Is A Valid Breakfast Choice. Some of them are puzzles.
The puzzle shirts
The rebus tees are the ones I am proudest of. Four hand-drawn panels in an old woodcut style, and together they spell out a phrase. No text, no hints. You either get it or the person next to you gets it and tells you, which is the whole point.
Every panel is drawn from scratch in a vintage engraving style, one ink color, tapered linework and cross-hatched shading. It takes a lot longer than slapping clip art in a grid. That is why nobody else is doing it.
How it works
Every shirt is printed when you order it. Nothing sits in a warehouse, nothing gets thrown out at the end of a season, and I can try a joke that only four hundred people in the world will find funny. If you are one of the four hundred, this is your shop.
Shirts are Bella+Canvas 3001 unisex tees, printed direct to garment in the United States. Shipping inside the US is free.
Say something
If you have a phrase that should be on a shirt, send it. A good chunk of what ends up in the shop started as somebody else’s idea. Use the contact page or find us on social.
Joy looks good on you.
